Skills
My technical background is built around practical production engineering: backend development, database systems, automation, scaling, debugging, analytics infrastructure, and keeping business-critical systems running under real pressure.
I have worked in startup environments, insurance systems, ad-tech analytics, engineering automation, and secure internal AI initiatives. My strongest work happens where software, infrastructure, data, and business operations all overlap.
Core Engineering Strengths
I am strongest in environments where systems need to be understood deeply, stabilized, improved, and scaled. I enjoy working through messy technical problems, finding the root cause, and building solutions that are understandable, maintainable, and useful to the business.
- Designing and maintaining backend systems used in production environments.
- Debugging complex issues across application code, databases, infrastructure, and third-party integrations.
- Automating repetitive workflows to reduce manual work and operational risk.
- Improving legacy systems without breaking business-critical functionality.
- Scaling systems as client volume, traffic, or business requirements increase.
- Balancing speed, reliability, readability, and long-term maintainability.
Languages & Development
My strongest professional languages are PHP, SQL, Python, JavaScript, jQuery, HTML, and C#. I have also worked with Java and Lua depending on project needs.
- PHP: backend systems, reporting, automation, alerting, dashboards, and production tooling.
- SQL: MySQL, MSSQL, data correction, reporting, analytics queries, stored logic, and operational troubleshooting.
- Python: automation scripts, AI workflows, email-processing tools, data extraction, local tooling, and home lab projects.
- JavaScript / jQuery / HTML: tracking systems, browser-side logic, internal tools, web interfaces, and ASP.NET-related frontend work.
- C#: ASP.NET MVC applications, internal tools, monitoring utilities, and enterprise system development.
- Lua: emulator scripting and game automation experiments.
Database & Data Systems
A major part of my career has involved storing, processing, querying, correcting, and analyzing large volumes of data.
- MySQL and MSSQL development, reporting, troubleshooting, and optimization.
- Solr-based storage and indexing systems used to modernize large-scale traffic ingestion.
- BigQuery-backed Ads Data Hub integration for Google advertising data.
- Database-backed queue systems for automation and report processing.
- Data-quality safeguards to prevent incorrect client data entry or misrouted information.
- Analytics workflows involving attribution, lift, traffic patterns, seasonality, and campaign measurement.
Production Scale & Reliability
At C3 Metrics, I worked on systems that supported more than 9 billion events per day and required constant attention to performance, reliability, and scaling.
- Supported high-volume ad-tech infrastructure with 99.5%+ uptime expectations.
- Maintained tracking code that needed to load within roughly 30 milliseconds.
- Participated in 24/7 critical production support and incident response.
- Helped resolve a cascade failure involving roughly 200 servers.
- Performed continuous performance upgrades to support increasingly large clients.
- Reviewed weekly deployments and participated in production validation after release.
Browser Tracking & Analytics
One of my deepest areas of specialization is browser-side tracking, ad viewability, and analytics systems.
- Designed and maintained JavaScript tracking systems for advertising exposure and viewability.
- Adapted tracking logic as browsers changed support for older tracking methods.
- Implemented browser-specific approaches for Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and other environments.
- Worked on systems that measured whether ads loaded correctly, how long they were visible, and whether users later visited client sites.
- Integrated new data sources into existing attribution algorithms after platform policy changes.
Google Ads Data Hub & BigQuery
I worked directly with Google teams when traditional YouTube tracking methods were no longer allowed and helped transition our systems to an Ads Data Hub and BigQuery-backed approach.
- Designed new ingestion approaches for privacy-restricted advertising data.
- Worked around requirements that prevented overly specific user-identifying result sets.
- Created algorithms to integrate aggregated ADH data into existing attribution systems.
- Handled extremely large initial data volumes that required temporary null-log redirection to protect production systems.
- Collaborated with Google representatives to produce a solution that worked for both compliance and business needs.
Automation & Workflow Design
Automation has been one of the constant themes throughout my career and personal projects.
- Built queue-based automation around a USB-licensed reporting system at Concord Group Insurance.
- Automated monitoring and alerting through dashboards, PHP email notifications, and C# tools.
- Created home lab automation tools for email parsing, dashboards, game automation, and AI workflows.
- Designed workflows that reduce duplicate data entry and connect disconnected systems.
- Prefer automating repeated tasks rather than manually repeating fragile processes.
AI & Local Model Work
All of my AI work has either been in my home lab or through current NHBB internal AI initiatives.
- Home lab experimentation with local models, image generation, prompt workflows, and coding assistants.
- Self-hosted AI tooling using Ollama and OpenWebUI.
- Direct Python-based experimentation with model workflows and automation pipelines.
- AI-assisted design exploration and modernization support for legacy system rewrites.
- Current work supporting secure internal AI infrastructure where external AI tools are limited by export-control and data-handling concerns.
- Interest in chat agents for HR-style information requests and AI note-taking assistants for meetings.
Leadership & Mentoring
My leadership experience comes from hands-on technical leadership, not detached management.
- Helped grow and lead a development team of roughly 10 developers.
- Built and helped scale a QA team to roughly 8 members.
- Mentored junior developers and new graduates entering professional engineering roles.
- Coordinated daily standups, priorities, deployment readiness, and release timing.
- Worked closely with account management, QA, developers, and C-level leadership.
- Ran coding challenges and practical learning exercises for newer developers.
Deployment & Startup Operations
I have extensive experience operating in a scrappy startup environment where priorities shift quickly and production systems need to keep running.
- Weekly Thursday deployment cycles with rollback planning available for Friday.
- Deployment review, QA coordination, staging validation, and live production verification.
- Cross-team planning with account management to support onboarding timelines.
- Direct communication with executives about features, risks, client needs, and production issues.
- Comfortable balancing fast delivery with realistic production safeguards.
- Strong preference for practical solutions that solve the business problem without unnecessary complexity.
General IT & Systems Knowledge
I consider myself well-rounded beyond just application development.
- Networking fundamentals and troubleshooting.
- Computer building, hardware troubleshooting, and system setup.
- Virus and general desktop support troubleshooting.
- Windows, Linux, Unix, and macOS environments.
- PowerShell, terminal usage, and command-line workflows.
- Security fundamentals strengthened through CompTIA Security+ certification.
Engineering Philosophy
Reliability over hype. Practical solutions over unnecessary complexity. Automate everything that makes sense. Ship fast, then refine. Write code the next developer can actually understand.
The most valuable engineering work I have done has usually come from understanding the real business need, building something that works, and then improving it until it is reliable, understandable, and scalable. I have worked in environments where doing everything perfectly from the start was not always possible, but making something stable, useful, and maintainable was always the goal.
